In our quest to build using natural resources and recycled (salvaged) materials, we adopted the techniques that the local African folk use in homemaking. Whether using the traditional natural building methods of rural Africa or the shanty town techniques of recycling in the ghettos, all our buildings are built using eco principles.
Please note that our rooms do not have any electrical plug points or TV facilities. The bath & shower are outdoors and composting toilets (modern-day long-drops) are away from the rooms.
Dorm Room – R230.00 pp/night
Our Dorm is a “wattle & daub” (pole & dagga) African style rondavel structure, with big windows and a high roof. With it’s mud walls, clay floor and thatch roof, it is warm in winter and cool during the heat of summer. The dorm sleeps 8 downstairs and has a private loft area upstairs that sleeps 2. The large east-facing window captures the beautiful panoramic view of the mountains and breath-awakening sunrises.
Khayalitsha – R565.00 double room
Khayalitsha (New Home) is a double room / shic shack. Constructed with wood scraps, car windows, road signs and rusted corrugated iron, this warmly decorated room is furnished with a comfy double bed, feather duvets, warm blankets, cordwood floors and simple style.
Khayamnandi – R565.00 double/twin room or R795.00 triple per night (In-season rate R795.00)
Khayamnandi (Beautiful Home) is a 3 sleeper room with a double bed and a single bed. This little shack can be used as a double/twin or family unit for a couple and child/friend. The building of this room was the one that gave us the most headaches as the Jagermeister bottles that were used for the front wall where all once full 🙂 Simply and warmly attired with comfy mattresses, feather duvets, lots of pillows and warm blankets.
Khayalethu – R565.00 double, R795.00 triple or R1025.00 quad room per night (In-season rate R1025.00)
Khayalethu (Our home) is a family unit with a double bed in one room and a double bunk in the other. It is perfect for a small family or a group of friends. Simply and warmly fitted with comfy mattresses, feather duvets, lots of pillows and warm blankets.
Khayalam Downstairs – R565.00 double/twin room per night
Khayalam is a double story cabin with separate entrances for upstairs and downstairs. It is great for a group of 6 or can be separated into two rooms. The downstairs room is suitable as a twin or a double. It has warm cosy duvets and blankets with lots of windows and a great little stoep (deck).
Khayalam Upstairs – R565.00 twin, R795.00 triple or R1025.00 quad room per night (In-season rate R1025.00)
Khayalam-Up is better known as the stars or sunrise room. It is perched high up amongst the trees and birds with epic views and lots of windows. Furnished with 4 single beds and cosy blankets.
