ABOUT THE JOURNEY

The Wildest Coast Journey by Horse is an annual pilgrimage on horseback that spans the rugged and untamed shoreline of the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Starting at the Great Kei River in the south to the Mtamvuna River that lies 400km in the north and back again.

The full 800km journey is made up of 8 shorter rides (4 on the north bound ride and 4 on the south bound ride). The rides range from between 7 – 11 days.

Four of the rides are focused more on camping-out and sleeping in remote locations whilst the other 4 rides offer a comfy night’s sleep in accommodation along the way.

This is a journey for the soulful wanderer, the stop-to-smell-the-roses and gaze up at the stars kinda traveler. Here is a unique opportunity to really immerse yourself in the rustic and rural lifestyle of the Wild Coast that is so vastly different from our Western culture, which seeks out luxury and expects pampering. This is not a fast-paced endurance ride or a competitive adventure race. It’s a pilgrimage and by the end of this journey you will not only have explored this untamed landscape but also the wild and free parts of yourself.
